King Abdulaziz university, faculty of medicine, medical education department, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and FAMER (Foundation in Advancement of Medical education) have collaboratively designed this educational program to help develop well-rounded professional who is capable of making a positive and valued contribution in the complex and rapidly changing world of health professions education .

Program mission

To produce exemplary leaders and scholars who will advance the field of health professions education care locally, regionally and internationally.

Program objectives

The program is designed to :

1) Provide in-depth training in all aspects of health professions education.

2) Help applicants acquire the knowledge and skills to advance health sciences education at their own institution to the highest international standards.

3) Provide health professions education leaders with a broad and rigorous foundation in the theory and practice of education.

4) Enrich the field of health professions education with scholars who will advance understanding and practice of education in the health profession.

 Description of the program

The program (42 CH) consists of:

- 6 core blocks (3 CH each)

- 4 electives (4 credit each)

- research thesis (8 credit).

The program will be completed in two years.

The program includes two cycles.

Each cycle consists of 4 semesters. Each semester will have 1 core course and 2 electives.

6 core blocks:

ME800- Instruction and Assessment in Health Profession Education.

ME801- Curriculum and Program Evaluation in Health Profession Education.

ME802- Scholarship in Health Profession Education.

ME803- Leadership in Health Profession Education.

ME825- Assessment Methods.

ME894- Research Method.

4 Elective:

ME820- Medical Simulation.

ME821- Introduction to Quantitative Data Analysis.

ME822- Program Evaluation.

ME823- Ethics and Professional Standards.

ME824- Faculty Development.

ME826- Using Standardized Patients for Assessment.

ME827- Biostatistics.

Who will facilitate the program?

Facilitators from UIC and FAIMER will be responsible on structuring the learning materials and conducting the teaching process.

The role of KAU faculty members:

During the first cycle:

Follow closely all the activities which are organized by the course instructors.

Participate in moderating group discussions

Monitor small group work.

Read all the articles and chapters that are assigned for the students to master the content.

Open communication with the course instructors.

The role of KAU faculty members:

During the second cycle:

- Participate and co-teach the course with the UIC instructors, to acquire the skills that are needed to deliver these Masters level courses.

- Get involved in reviewing the final course assignments.

Admission criteria

1- The applicant should be Saudi .  

2- A bachelor degree in a health specialty.

3- Applicants are health professional leaders in any of the following areas:

A-Academia.

B-Health Organizations.

C-Professional Societies.

D-International Health Agencies.

4- English language proficiency:

5-Priority will be given to applicants with a certificate in medical education.
